Tribes Book Cover

Bold and brash, sometimes inspirational, frequently in-your-face, Seth Godin’s book is a call to action to challenge the status quo.  It asks all of us to be part of new kind of leadership; Leadership that’s built on the rapidly expanding and global social networks spreading through the internet every day.

Tribes doles out the new model that already exists in how people are grouping together, why they do, and who leads them. Gone is the importance of the organization, team, or workgroup.   Here comes the tribe, defined as a group of people dedicated to one another, a leader, and an idea. Geography, time, and costs do not hinder the formation of a tribe.  This book asks the big question:  Who will lead these tribes?  Will You?

While I don’t agree 100% with every statement contained in Tribes, I would recommend that you take just the moment to devour the thoughts this book presents to us.  There are some truths to be found inside its covers.  Fundamentalist beware- this book asks you to scrap all tradition. Like I said, I don’t agree with everything contained within.

If you are blind to the connected networked world, this book can help open your eyes to this new paradigm in leadership.  Leadership of the future will require and demand this understanding;  that leadership is just as much about what you stand for as much as who you are. True to its content, the organization of the book is disjointed and each thought is written in quick snippets.  If you are looking for structured steps and deep content, don’t look here.  If you want a book that will make you think differently about the changing world, read up.
